That would be the ones...a gun rack in every pickup

That would be the ones with the bumper sticker that says "Gun control means using both hands."

Actually the most offensive sticker combination I ever saw at church was when, right above the faux-chrome fish emblem was a decal on the window of the Statue of Liberty with an M-16 in her raised hand.Dan Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01635080266346679464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5111802929460493692.post-51099878193545010312010-04-24T10:24:23.863-07:002010-04-24T10:24:23.863-07:00Oh, and IFB = Independent Fundamentalist Baptist. ...Oh, and IFB = Independent Fundamentalist Baptist. In a twisted sort of way, I find it's fun to argue with these types using their own ammunition--it's really tough when you're confronted with a passage in your verbally-inspired text, that doesn't support your shibboleth of the moment. Not that there's really much point. . .we both know that Calvin and MacArthur and Piper are the ones with the REALLY inspired writing. . .Dan Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01635080266346679464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5111802929460493692.post-33840279703138618662010-04-23T22:11:47.941-07:002010-04-23T22:11:47.941-07:00Thank you for a great review, Dan.
So recently,...Thank you for a great review, Dan.

So recently, I've been participating in an online forum of Baptists. When I joined, I figured most of these were SBC, but after hanging around a while, I realized I was in a den of IFB folks, which scared me out of my skin until I realized that Jack Hyles passed away a number of years back. I then felt a bit safer.

I've been doing this because I feel the need to restore my contact a bit with this segment of the Christian population and the opportunity here for dialogue, while often being frustrating and grieving, also is quite enlightening. I guess I need to stop griping a bit and return to engaging. I may blog about it before too long.

As you can imagine, there's a lot of talk about the exclusive claims of Christianity, and they almost always use that particular verse, except when they do something different and go with Acts 4:2.

I haven't chimed in because of the very issue you cite. The context just doesn't support that kind of meaning. And that really bothers me. And I know I wouldn't stand a chance bringing that up with an IFB or even SBC individual.

I just wonder where that particular argument goes from here.

Scary.jaignerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08341869496562567925noreply@blogger.com
